Table and Chair

Table and Chair

The Problem.

After learning about the subtle differences between icons, indices, and symbols, I was tasked with representing a table and chair in each of these forms. Icons show recognizable connections, indices are references to the object, and symbols are abstractions of the object.

The Process.

I first created a series of thumbnail sketches and collages. Then, I turned the best of these designs into vector drawings of an icon, index, and symbol for each object.

The Solution.

My final icon, index, and symbol for each object reflect one another in aesthetics and show a clear evolution in their shapes and style.
