Employee Onboarding

Employee Onboarding

The Problem.

Employee onboarding was identified as a vital moment that matters in the experience of this organization’s employees. Onboarding sets the tone for employees and their perception of the organization. Our client was specifically curious about the onboarding experience at the organization’s main office, which houses program staff from several different departments.

The Process.

I led a four-person team that interviewed 23 main office employees. Our team synthesized the resulting data and developed a journey map and findings report highlighting insightful points for future intervention. Our team then proceeded into a design phase. We first developed eight concept categories based on the needs articulated by the employees with whom we had spoken. Using the categories as inspiration, we developed 20 low-fidelity prototypes, which were narrowed to four medium-fidelity prototypes, and, finally, to two high-fidelity prototypes that were tested with employees.

The Solution.

The final two prototypes, an official welcome packet and a new employee buddy program, both tested well with employees and responded to their desire for personalized information and a warm welcome. The welcome packet was then chosen for further development, testing, and implementation. Our team developed the final files as well as an implementation plan for rolling out the solution.
